One of the most common questions we hear is "How far ahead should we book?" The honest answer depends on where you're going and when — but for families, earlier is almost always better. Here's a simple timeline to follow.
9–12 months out: big trips and peak dates
For holidays, spring break, summer, cruises and European vacations, start planning about a year ahead. Family suites, connecting rooms and balcony cabins are limited and go first. Booking early also gives you the most choice of resorts, ships and flight times.
6–9 months out: lock in the essentials
This is the sweet spot for most all-inclusive and Caribbean trips. Secure your accommodations and, where possible, your flights. Many resorts and cruise lines offer early booking promotions, and deposits are often low, with the balance due closer to travel.
3–6 months out: the details
Check passports — many countries require at least six months of validity beyond your travel dates, and renewals can take time. Arrange travel insurance, airport transfers and any special requests like cribs or dietary needs.
1–3 months out: activities and extras
Reserve excursions, dining, spa treatments and tours. Popular activities fill up, especially during school holidays.
The final weeks
Confirm documents, check in online, pack and share your itinerary with family at home. Then relax — the planning is done.
What about last-minute deals?
Last-minute deals do exist, but they usually suit couples and flexible travelers more than families who need specific dates, room types and flights. If you're open to it, we'll keep an eye out for you.
